BlueWave is seeking a Senior Accountant for an industry leading technology company based in Houston, TX 77306. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience managing sales tax compliance, reporting, and analysis. As a Senior Accountant you will be responsible for ensuring adherence to tax regulations, optimizing tax processes, and supporting overall financial accuracy and integrity.
Responsibilities:
Account Reconciliation - Perform detailed reconciliations of general ledger accounts, including bank statements, accounts payable, accounts receivable, sales tax accounts and other financial accounts.
Month-End and Year-End Close - Assist with leading and managing the month-end and year-end closing processes.
Sales Tax Compliance - Manage and oversee all aspects of sales tax compliance, including the preparation, filing, and payment of sales tax returns.
Tax Planning and Strategy - Develop and implement strategies to optimize sales tax processes and minimize tax liabilities.
Reporting and Analysis - Prepare detailed sales tax reports for management, including analyses of sales tax liabilities, refunds, and exemptions.
Audit and Documentation - Coordinate with external auditors and tax authorities during audits. Maintain thorough and organized documentation to support tax positions and compliance.
Process Improvement - Identify and implement process improvements related to sales tax accounting and compliance.
Cross-Functional Collaboration - Partner with other departments such as sales and legal to ensure accurate tax treatment of transactions and compliance with tax regulations
Training and Support - Provide training and support to team members and other departments regarding sales tax matters.
Develop Policies and Procedures - Develop and maintain policies and procedures related to sales tax to ensure consistency and compliance across the organization.
Requirements:
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field
Minimum of 5 years of accounting experience with a strong focus on sales tax compliance and reporting
Knowledge of sales tax regulations and practices at the federal, state, and local levels
Proven experience with tax software and accounting systems
Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint)
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to interpret complex tax laws and apply them to business practices
Excellent attention to detail and accuracy, with strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities effectively
Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate across departments and with external stakeholders
